Toric Lens
The Toric lens is a foldable, single-piece lens that replaces your cloudy lens during treatment of cataracts. The unique design of the Toric lens implants makes it possible to drastically decrease or even permanently eliminate astigmatism. The advanced technology Toric lens provides excellent distant visual acuity.Since 1991, the Toric lens has been implanted in more than 50 million eyes and continues to be one of the safest and most reliable IOLs available.
Toric lens implants are an outpatient procedure and surgery can be finished within 8 to 12 minutes. Following surgery, you will be able to immediate return home and can resume your daily activities after 1 to 2 days of rest. We recommend that you avoid strenuous activity and the use of swimming pools and hot tubs during the first 2 weeks following surgery.
During your appointment, Mitchell Eye Centre’s doctors will review your options and help you to understand which solutions will best suit your needs and expectations. With a simple refractive lens exchange, you can start seeing the world in better focus.
Multifocal Lenses
Multifocal lenses provide high-quality vision for near and distance vision, and in most lighting conditions. For patients looking to regain their ability to drive safely, enjoy recreational hobbies and sports, and read without the assistance of bifocals, these advanced technology lenses can help you take back your eyesight. By providing two points of focus, these lenses offer very good near and distant visual acuity and reasonable intermediate visual acuity. However, you may need reading glasses for intermediate vision work, for example, working on a computer. They are an excellent option for anyone over the age of 40 experiencing reduced vision as a result of cataracts or presbyopia.
Multifocal lenses are an excellent option for any patient with age-related vision loss looking to regain their vision and to free themselves from glasses.
As with all of the other refractive lens exchange options available at the Mitchell Eye Centre, multifocal lens implants are a quick and easy outpatient procedure. Whether you’re treating cataracts or vision-limitations caused by presbyopia, your new advanced technology lenses can be implanted in both eyes in about 8 to 12 minutes. After 1 to 2 days of rest you will be able to resume your daily activities. For all patients undergoing refractive lens exchange, we recommend that you avoid strenuous activity and using swimming pools or hot tubs until at least 2 weeks after surgery.
Verisyse Lens Implants | Artisan Lens Implants
The Verisyse, Artisan, and Artiflex lenses sit in the anterior chamber of your eye, your natural lens is left intact and is not removed as occurs with refractive lens exchange or cataract surgery.Surgery takes 30 minutes to complete. Afterwards, patients are free to return home to rest. For the first 2 weeks after surgery, please avoid heavy lifting, contact sports, and using swimming pools or hot tubs. You will be prescribed eye drops to use daily during this time.
An additional benefit of the Verisyse lens implant is that the procedure is potentially reversible. Should there be any problems the lens can be removed.
You will notice an immediate improvement in your eyesight and can expect to see final results within 3 months after surgery.
Artiflex Lens Implants
The Artiflex lens implant procedure corrects some of the widest range of vision errors. Essentially, the Artiflex lens is an updated version of the Verisyse lens. Once placed within your eye, the Artiflex lens remains permanently usually without the need of further surgeries.Since the Artiflex lens is foldable, it can be injected into the eye. This means that it requires a smaller incision and only requires topical eye drops to anaesthetize the area. This allows for a faster recovery.
The Artiflex lens implants are a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that can be completed in under 30 minutes.
Afterwards, you will be able to immediately return home. Our surgeons recommend that all patients take 1 to 2 days to rest following surgery and to avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, contact sports as well as the use of swimming pools and hot tubs for the first 2 weeks after surgery.
You can expect an improvement in your vision the day after surgery.
